Joshua 3–4 records Israel crossing the Jordan while the river was overflowing its banks. Before the waters were cut off, the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant had to reach the river and step into its edge. Slowing down and looking carefully at the details makes this familiar account feel remarkably real.
